10 Common beginner blogging mistakes to avoid
Many people want to know what it takes to have a successful blog.
To be successful you will read, study, learn and apply. Make your mistakes early and learn from them fast.
Waiting to be perfect is the wrong approach you will not move forward with this mindset. I find the most effective mindset for me is to take action and make the necessary adjustments as I move towards my destination.
Change what is not working quickly. Improve and or increase what is working. By taking action you can cultivate and weed out methods and tactics that keep you on course to you desired goals.
Let us take a look at 10-common mistakes that are made when first starting to blog. Hopefully these will assist you on avoiding them and moving forward faster. Remember it is essential that you begin and adjust as you go.
1.) Choose the correct blogging platform and that is not always the most convenient or easiest. There are plenty of blogging platforms to choose from these days.
With the research that I have seen and from my personal experience WordPress is one of the best and most versatile around. There is plenty of plugins, themes, training and documentation on the use of this platform. There are other blogging platforms out there however WordPress is successfully and widely used by beginners to highly successful experienced users.
2.) Learn and study SEO from the start. Don’t put this off and don’t let it stop you from taking action.
Begin your journey and learn about SEO from the start. Put your action plan into action and make your changes as you go. SEO should be apart of your action plan from the beginning.
Don’t wait until you are an expert SEO before acting and don’t wait to learn SEO they should go hand in hand they are both important and should be studied and applied at the same time.
3.) Know about permalinks and use the best method.
Which url (permalink) is better? Remember SEO makes a difference and how does the human element see and remember your url?
Here are a couple of choices a url that looks like this (a number based permalink) /p?24/2007 or a url that looks like this (a title based permalink) /blogging-is-fun.
The title based permalink is by far the best method both for your readers and SEO purposes.
4.) Find a good rhythm for blogging. Don’t be overwhelmed by the process.
Remember you don’t have to write 7 days a week. Posting 2 to 4 times a week is a great start. Many have found that they are more productive and write better content when they have a balance with their blogging and life.
If you are hot and wish to write Wordpress has a really neat feature that allows you to future post to your blog. This is really a great feature because when we are hot we are hot and we want to capture that essence. Also if you are planning some time off by using the future posting feature your blog will not miss a beat.
5.) Continue commenting at other sites don’t stop doing this important process.
This is critical to your blogging success. It is time consuming but an important part of the blogging game, which is to contribute to the conversation at other sites as well.
6.) Learn to promote you feeds.
It is not enough to post links to subscribe to your feeds. Promote your feeds this is a huge benefit to your traffic building process.
7.) Continue a linking process and don’t stop this.
Learn to enjoy the linking process linking out and getting them back. I find this o be a fun game that turns out to be extremely good for my blogs.
8.) Make it a standard not to trash others.
If you have an issue with somebody talk to them directly.
It does no good to publicly trash somebody. Your readers really don’t want to hear it and it could be a simple misunderstanding. A little communication goes a long ways.
9.) Know your purpose for blogging.
Are you blogging for fun and friends? Are you blogging for profits? Are you sharing a passion with others and do you want to earn from that? Really know the purpose of your blog and what you want out of it!
10.) Find your balance with monetization and self promotion.
This will take some thinking and experimenting on your part. They are both important so don’t let one over take the other. The proper balance will be different for each of us depending on what we are promoting. Success in one area should not take away from the other. Always always always monetize.
Thanks a sharp eyed reader I am adding to this list.
This will be number 11.)

Some good ideas here. Although, I think it should be mentioned;
11.) That an improper install of WordPress or poor hosting for your WordPress blog can leave you with a crashing blog on that almighty day you make digg’s front page. I feel it fits in with your theme of, “Be Prepared.”
